Your suggestions are welcome...

I need suggestions for two different things at the moment. First, a good book to read. Nothing too sad, because that's just not my cup of tea. For me, the whole point of reading is to escape for a little while and enjoy it. Second, ideas for food to serve to some ladies in my ward that are coming over for breakfast on Friday. I'm not looking to go all out for this breakfast, just something light and simple. I would appreciate both recommendations and/or recipes. I know that lots of you are great cooks and also avid readers, so I'm sure you can all hook me up!
*Update: None of the suggestions should involve eggs, ham, salad or cheese as I don't like any of those things!

Do you like crepes? you could make everything in advance and so it would be fairly simple. I could email you filling ideas/recipes if you want.

I recommend reading Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. It's funny, and it gets funnier the more you read i I think.

You should make eggs, ham, salad, and cheese.

Melissa!!! I found you again! The last time I changed my blog background, I re-typed your blog address in wrong and I've been trying to find someone else who had it for forever. I've really missed reading your posts, they alwasy make me chuckle!

Anyway, a good book to read that's a fun escape...hmmm...The Princess Bride is one of my most favorite books--so much funnier than the movie. I laughed out loud most of the time. Stardust by Neil Gaiman is pretty funny too, though no where close to as good as the movie.

As far as breakfast foods, sorry, I'm not a big breakfast person. My dislikes go way beyond eggs, ham, salad, and cheese. Good luck though, sounds like fun.

You could buy some of those yummy, but very bad for you, muffins from costco. You can have fruit as well.

Yah, muffins are always a good choice. Or maybe a tasty little cobbler?

I haven't read Cold COmfort Farm, but the movie was bizarrely hilarious and we still quote it around here to this day. I can't think of any other good ones right now, but I am with you -- I like to read books that make me feel happy.

Well, I was going to suggest Green Eggs and Ham for a nice, easy read. Guess that's out.

I think you should serve a french toast bake. I love making them..and yes, they have some egg in them...but you don't even know it. I love french toast. You can even add cream cheese. Okay, so two of the items on this you don't like, but you don't have to have salad or ham. :)

Oh, and the books...I really like the Twilight series, but we won't go there. I also recently read a series called The Company of good women. It's an LDS thing. go to virtualsisters.net
They do have some sad points, but in all they are slightly clever, and quick, and not my life, so fun.

Jenny, sorry to say that I don't like crepes. The book recommendation sounds great though, can I get it at the library?
Hannah, glad you found my blog again! I really liked the movie Stardust too.
Kara, I may just to muffins and fruit.
Kelly, you already know my feelings about Twilight but the other series sounds interesting.

i was going to recommend twilight...haha as a joke of course. i liked the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime. but you might not...it has some swearing. i have a recipe for creme brulee french toast that you prepare the day before. it's not too eggy so i don't think you would mind it. let me know if you want it. costco muffins are always easy and delicious too!

Read anything by Chaim Potok.

You cant go wrong with egg Mcmuffins. They have almost all of the food groups in a single breakfast sandwich, and you get a great stomach ache.

I also recommend baked french toast. If your grocery store has day old french bread it's even cheaper and no one knows. The last time we made it we were light on the eggs and heavy on the milk and it tasted great.

In case anyone cares, I think I'm going to go with either premade cinnamon rolls (like Rhodes) or make some monkey bread and also have hot chocolate and OJ. I guess when I asked for breakfast recommendations I should have also mentioned that I'm the world's pickiest eater! I will be taking some of the book recommendations though.

Melissa, you can get it at the library. After you finish it you need to watch the movie. It should be at the library. It has Kate Beckinsale pre-op.

Yogurt and granola or fruit for breakfast. Set it out buffet style and allow people to portion control their own bowl. Having the freedom to decide how much of each option is an underrated pleasure.

I read a real page turner called the Hunger Games. You should read it.
