The title of this post comes from my college years. After church in our singles ward each Sunday there would be cookies and mingling. My friend Gina and I decided instead of referring to this by its traditional name, "Linger Longer". We heard that a ward in Utah would call it, "Eat a cookie, take a lookie." We enjoyed this description and decided to use it as our own. The reason behind this was you were of course eating cookies and taking lookies at any fellas that might be of interest to you. That however, is not the reason that I actually wrote this post and I'm sorry for the somewhat long explanation of it. Anyhow, my mom and dad were kind enough to send me a check for my birthday and last night I decided what I wanted to do with it. For the longest time I've wanted a Kitchen Aid standing mixer. I think they are awesome and since I'm an avid cookie baker I figured that it would come in handy. This morning I went to the nearest Target and purchased it. I came home very excited about it and eager to make some delicious baked goods for the couple that babysat Addy the other night for my birthday. I am happy to say that the Kitchen Aid did a wonderful job of mixing and the cookies turned out to be delightful! Thanks in part to the Kitchen Aid and in part to the new cookie sheets that Ryan got me as a birthday present. I decided I would also post a picture and the recipe for the cookies. It is truly one of my favorite cookie recipes. I like it, because it's pretty easy to make and the cookies turn out looking quite fancy when it's all said and done.
Almond Glazed Sugar Cookies
Cookie:
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. almond extract
5-6 tsp. water
sliced almonds
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Combine butter, sugar and almond extract in large mixer bowl. Beat at med. speed until creamy (about 1-2 mins.) Add remaining ingredients and reduce speed to low, beat until well mixed. Roll dough into balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten balls with the bottom of a buttered glass dipped in sugar. Bake 7-9 mins. or until edges are lightly browned. Cool about 2 mins. and remove from sheets. Stir together glaze ingredients in a small bowl and decorate cookies with glaze and sliced almonds.

I've always wanted a kitchen aid as well. I'm glad they live up to all the hype. Those cookies look delicious.
They look so yummy. I will have to try them. I LOVE my Kitchen Aid. We got one for our wedding and I seriously don't know what I would do without it.
Those cookies are ever-so good. I wish I had (1 one of them to eat right now and (2 a fella to take a lookie at while doing so! Congrats on the new purchase!
I almost bought one this weekend too, and then thought...I can't spend this much dough to make dough. I'm jealous you got one, but someday when we get to visit you, you can make us some cookies in your KitchenAid.
happy birthday!

1) I want a kitchen aid, or any stand mixer for that matter. I need to get more counter space first.
2) One could say that I met my husband at a "cookie-lookie." Technically, we had already been introduced, but it was our first in-depth conversation (I was sitting by Zarina, and I think you and Kara were sitting next to Brien, across the picnic table at the institute.)
Congratulations on the purchase of your new mixer! What color did you choose? That's one of my favorite cookie recipes, and yours look delicious.
I just got plain old white. It would have cost $100 more just to get a colored one and so I decided against it! It's great though, thanks for the money mom!
Oh I love my kitchen aid. I myself am a maker of baked goods, and it is so nice to let the mixer do its work. It is lame though that they cost so much more for a cool color. I also have boring old white even though I really wanted red or something.
I can't wait to try these cookies. I'm for sure going to be making them sometime in the near future. I also love my Kitchen Aid. I didn't realize you haven't had one all of this time. It will change your life when it comes to cookie making.
Your blogs always seem to make me hungry. I will have to try to make those cookies someday. They look good.
