Our little artist/pirate

A couple of weeks ago I broke out the paints and let Addy go out on our porch and go to town. She loved painting and still asks to do it about everyday. Now on to why our daughter is a pirate. Of course, she loves making her classic pirate face. But now she has a legitimate pirate eye patch to go along with it. We took her to the opthamologist because I had noticed that she was having a problem with her right eye. The only time that I noticed it was when she was drinking. She would have these short staring spells, but her right eye would wander outward. Her pediatrician at first thought it was a neurological problem. They did an MRI on her about a year ago and then again just a couple of months ago and found nothing wrong with her neurological development. I was reading an article in one of my Parents magazine around the time she had the second MRI that discussed eye issues in young children and after that I knew it had to be an eye issue and not a neurological issue. When we took her to the opthamologist her diagnosed her with intermittent something or other (that's the technical term for it, I'm sure!) Basically her right eye wanders outward, but it's only happening occasionally. He told us that it isn't a vision problem, but a problem with the muscle in her eye. Because of this he told us that she has to wear an eye patch over the good eye for 2 hours everyday. This is so the weak eye muscles will be strengthened. She's a pretty good sport about it, but of course it's not her favorite thing ever! Sometimes when she's wearing it she'll say, "Eyepatch (those two words are combined into one word when she says them) hurt." My heart really goes out to her those 2 hours each day when she has to wear it and I'm probably more lenient than I normally am about letting her do things. "Sure you can watch another hour of Barney. Sure you can eat a cookie right before dinner. Sure you can jump on the couch with your shoes on." You get the idea! Anyway, it seems like her eye is getting stronger already because I've noticed her eye wandering less. Wandering eye or no, we love our little pirate lady!

Is this not the rudest look ever?

Addy had to wear these glasses after getting her eyes dilated. This picture is so funny to me!

She seems okay with the eye patch when we first put it on...

But not so much after having it on for about 10 seconds. Wouldn't you feel bad for this face?

While wearing the glasses, with her arms out she makes me think of a hippie (or a cute little girl flying). When you mentioned "eye patch" I thought of one on a string, but I guess that would be too easy for her to cheat and pull it off. She's darling.
