Ryan turns the big 3-0!

Ryan turned 30 on May 19th and I wanted to do something really special for him. I had this foolish idea to throw him a surprise party. I only say it was foolish because I didn't take into account how much work it would be to put a surprise party together with a 2 month old and
3 1/2 year old around. What should have taken me a few hours to do, took me days!
On his actual birthday we did the usual having a nice dinner at home (roast beef au jus sandwiches, Ryan's favorite) and then cake (tres leches, from scratch) and presents (P90X, harmonica, tickets for us to see Demetri Martin). That was not stressful and we had a very fun evening together as a family.
The next day was the surprise party and even with help it took me every minute of that day to get everything done. Poor Cohen was in his swing all day long and was totally neglected! Luckily a friend took Addy for a few hours, which was a huge help! I decided to make a few of Ryan's favorite desserts for the party and we held it at a park. About 30 people RSVPed that they would be there (most of whom where children). Of course I made way more treats than were needed, as I always do. When Ryan got home I told him we were going somewhere, but I didn't tell him where and made him wear a tie as a blindfold. I didn't really tell Addy what was going on with the party, because I knew she'd spill the beans! Even so when we got to the parking lot of the park and Ryan was still blinfolded she saw one of her friends and said, "Oh, there's Isabelle!" A not so subtle hint there! When the blindfold came off Ryan truly was surprised! It was really cool that so many friends were able to be there to celebrate with us! I really wish that I would have taken a whole bunch more pictures. I took hardly any and I was especially sad I didn't have my camera there when Ryan took his blindfold off. I was so stressed out with everything getting done, that I didn't even think of it until after the fact! Even though it was a whole lotta work, it was so worth it to be able to do something that special for Ryan. He's such a wonderful husband and father to us, despite how incredibly busy his life is. Not to mention the best looking 30 year old that I know!

One of the only songs Addy will sing now a days is Happy Birthday and she LOVES to sing it!

Like I said, I got no pictures of the desserts before everyone started eating. I made Symphony bar brownies, M&M cookies, a strawberry shortcake trifle and had a jar full of assorted candies.

And for the Grandmas, I had to throw in a couple pictures of Cohen in his cute little beachy outfit (these were taken about 2 weeks ago)

What a good little wife you are! And, I well know that feeling of guilt when a baby spends most of the day neglected while I clean for a family gathering or some such. Still, one must admit that it is nice to have a baby that will occasionally allow a little neglect rather than just scream and cry!:)
