Cervix Woes
Yesterday I went to the Dr. for my weekly exam, which is very pleasant. It's lots of fun to have a man exam my nether regions! (I'm of course being sarcastic!) I was hoping for him to say that the baby had dropped and that I was at least a little bit dilated. Sadly, the news was not so great. I was told that my cervix is still long and hard, both of which are bad things. The Dr. actually knocked on the wooden counter top in the office and told me that's how hard my cervix is, which made me a little uneasy. He also told me that baby hasn't dropped yet, which is pretty unusual for a first time pregnancy. The next step is for me to go in on Monday and have an ultrasound to get an idea of how much the baby weighs, that she has enough amniotic fluid, etc. He's also going to do a non-stress test to make sure she's doing okay in there. After that the next step is taking medication to soften my cervix. He said the last resort is having a C-Section, which freaks the crap out of me! I have high hopes that before we have to resort to the C-Section or even before my appointment on Monday I will go into labor on my own. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me!

Oh my, that sucks. I'm sorry. Yesterday when I told the kids that you were due Clay asked If you were as big as Juli. I said yes. He said, I need to see it. Then he thought some more and asked if you were as big as the computer! It was so funny. They are excited. SO AM I !!!!!!
Hopefully the baby is doing well. Maybe they have your dates mixed up and you aren't due for another week or so? Try some walking and "recreational activities" if ya know what I mean. It sucks when you have to have a c-section. Trust me I know. But it's a lot worse when it's unexpected rather than planned. Good luck!
Melissa-
Don't worry everything will trun out just right...I have always been late with everyone of my 3 babies and I never dialate or have my cervix soften until I am in real labor. I have had a c-section and don't be freaked out, they aren't as bad as everyone says. With Ryan there to help you it will be fine if you have to do that. Love-Kira
This will gross you out, but since you will not be modest after Ady is born.....you have to have sex (actaully you just need to be there, Ryan is the one that needs to have sex)...anyway just lay there afterwards, don't get up for as long as you can. Don't go to the bathroom, just lay there. I promise Ryan did not call me to ask me to write this. It's the last thing you're probably thinking about, but it works. If it doesn't work, you have to make a wish in a water fountain that has a Lion as the statue above it. (aka...the Lion King Waterfall)
Smiles, Kelly
PS I know you're calling Ryan into the room RIGHT NOW!! We know what you're doing!!
Good luck Liss. I'm sure everything will work out well. I was wondering what would happen to that baby counter thing as soon as there weren't any more days to count down! I wondered if she might start wearing make-up and growing boobs. Glad to see they just add another day for you.
I just want to express my appreciation to the thoughtful post-ers who are encouraging Melissa to enjoy more "recreational activities". I mean, believe me, there have been a menagerie of those kinds of activities going on in our boodwah (french word for bedroom) but more can never, ever be bad. Ever.
It's so funny that everyone is giving me the advice to walk and participate in "recreational activities", (I like the way you put that Kara) because that was the exact same advice the nurse at the Dr.'s office gave me yesterday before I left. Recreational activites are not the most appealing thing to me right now with my big ol' belly, but whatever it takes I guess!
I think it's great that the Ady counter (the baby counter) on the main page of the blog is going backwards now. I wonder how far it will go. I guess it assumes your baby should be 3 days old now. I never had to go too far past my due date to get a baby,(only with Kirra did I go over, and that was only by 2 days, but I did start labor on the right day, she just took awhile) so I feel for you. Remember what helps start it :)
I doubt anyone's cervix is as hard as a counter top. He HAD to be exaggerating with that one! If you are 41 weeks prego and they put you on a potosin drip, you will go into labor. That's what they did with me and look, now I have Ana who is seven and often bugging the living daylights out of everyone (she's cute too though). Soon enough, soon enough!
You can try walking. Perhaps you are in labor now? Walking worked for Andrea and the baby came a week early. If you tried rec activities be carefull to not poke the babies eye out. (He HE) You don't want a little Pirate.
